APRIL 2007

From the President

Dear Members and Friends,

Our Friday night St. Patrick’s Day Dance was very well attended, and it was a nice time for all.  It was the band of Sam Pecorilla’s last gig for this year, and a few musicians in attendance sat in for a few numbers and jammed their hearts out.

Majority of our guests stayed ‘til the last dance was played, and a few remained to socialize at the bar. Maybe it was the spirit of St. Patrick‘s Day?

Our kitchen did well too.  All the corned beef was sold out, and a few folks took food home because of   Lenten Friday.  That’s the spirit!

Thanks to Halina Kosinski and all the kitchen volunteers who helped to make sure that we’re all well fed and didn’t have to stand in line too long.

Our Easter Dinner is on April 1, the first Sunday of the month.  We are preparing our usual buffet spread.  Don’t be left out.  The food is scheduled to be served from 1-3pm.  Stan Maczka and his Accordion Magic will entertain from 3-7.  Let’s make it a family day.  Bring your families and friends to share this time together.

This is turning out to be all good news thus far, and here’s one more.  We are half way to paying off our remodeling loan of $21,000.  That is great news!  Our treasurer, Mary Kiselus, is doing a great job of managing our budget and hopefully, by the end of the year, we can retire the entire amount.

Our Newsletter Editors are going on a European trip next month, and David Bonczkiewicz agreed to publish the May issue.  Thanks Dave for filling in, and “happy travels” to Carol Ann and Norm Fritchie.

Since the Friday night dance was so well attended, we will try to schedule a few more on Fridays in the future.  Perhaps that will be the answer to the poorly attended Sunday afternoon dances?  Only time will tell.

Best wishes to Henry Spychalski, who’s been ailing lately.  He and Frances were not able to attend our recent functions.  Get better soon Henry!

Happy Easter!

Your President, Casimir Kosinski

Messages from the Board Members

FIRST VICE PRESIDENT - Chez Falkowski:

During the membership meeting on March 4, 2007, five persons were sworn as the new members of the Pulaski Club.  They are Dalphine Kay, Charles Kay, Anette Ottomeyer, Luise Percival, and Mariusz Szlapak.  We are happy to have them and extend a warm “welcome”.

Two weeks later we had a great time at the St. Patrick's party in the Pulaski Club.  I met quite a few people who came for the first time.  I tried to encourage them to become a member of our Club.

One of them was under impression that the Club would be packed tight with guests.

I guess we had much more fun than the attendees will ever have at the upcoming Berlin banquet for the heads of the EU countries.  They will revise the 460-page EU Constitution project.

We all enjoyed good food due to the efforts of Halina Kosinski and Frank Tomaszkowicz with good music by Sam Pecorilla Band.  Hopefully we all spread the word that Pulaski Club offers the friendly atmosphere, good food, and good music.  Happy Easter to everyone.

ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR - Halina Kosinski:

This spring, after a thorough cleaning of the clubhouse, we embrace the “impulse for renewal” by introducing a variety of fresh flavors at our Easter Holiday dinner which takes place on Sunday, April 1st.

In a nod to the season, every appetizer, every entrée, and every dessert will emphasize fresh ingredients and include at least a glimpse of green.

Our Polish appetizer will consist of traditional deviled eggs, served with vegetable salad and “kabanosy” (thin smoked gourmet sausage).  The buffet style dinner will feature an American classic – baked ham with pineapple slices as well as Polish sausage and, for the more delicate palette, baked chicken breast stuffed with vegetables.  These entrees will be accompanied by a fresh garden salad “spanakopita”, which is Greek spinach dish with feta cheese baked in thin “filo” pastry.  Add to that a hot vegetable medley and also mashed potatoes with gravy.

Our dessert table will be full of home made sweet temptations including traditional cheesecakes, “babkas”, and “mazurkas” (which is layered pastry with jelly filling and festive top decorations).

We recommend making reservations for this occasion by calling Halina Kosinski at:  623-487-9822 evenings, or 602-278-4711 daytime before Thursday March 29, 2007.  This will help us plan the quantities of food based on anticipated attendance.

There will be one charge at the door for the dinner and dance.  Members will be $14 and $16 for non-members.  Children under 6 eat free, children from 6-14 only $5.  Happy Easter to everyone.

TREASURER - Mary Kiselus

Month of February proved to be a super month for the club.  All our events, dues collected and rentals brought in $8,551.20. Expenses for February totaled $6,626.56 (This figure includes repayment of improvement loans of $2,500.00).  Income for February was $1,924.64.  Keep up the good work and enjoy our upcoming events.  We hope to see you all at the Easter Dinner.  Happy Easter to All!

FINANCIAL SECRETARY - Stella Wojski

Thank you for all the renewals.  Dues are $24.00 a year.  Check your membership card, and send a check to the Pulaski Club.  If you know of anyone with address changes, have them fill out the form in this newsletter or contact me with the changes.  Happy Easter.

SUNSHINE COMMITTEE - Shirley Sztuk

We sent get well cards to Henry Spychalski and Roger Pherschk; get well soon.  A sympathy card was sent to Ron Brozoska for the passing of his father.

BAR-STANDERS:  #1.   OLD FOLKS:  An elderly gentleman had serious hearing problems for a number of years.  He went to the doctor, and the doctor was able to have him fitted for a set of hearing aids that allowed the gentleman to hear 100%.  The elderly gentleman went back in a month to the doctor, and the doctor said, "Your hearing is perfect.  Your family must be really pleased that you can hear again."  The gentleman replied, "Oh, I haven't told my family yet.  I just sit around and listen to the conversations.  I've changed my will three times!"

#2.    Three old guys are out walking.  First one says, "Windy, isn't it?"  Second one says, "No, it's Thursday!"  Third one says, "So am I.  Let's go get a beer."

BARTENDERS:  Beer and Bras.  British men have been found twice as likely to know the price of their beer as their partner's bra size.  A poll reported in Britain's Prima magazine found 77% of males knew how much their beer costs, but only 38% knew the correct size of there mate's bra.

RENT THE HALL:  The Pulaski club is available for all your social events.  Basic club price is $1150.00, this includes a 6 hr. rental, cleaning deposit and $200 damage deposit (refundable).  In addition, we offer security, kitchen, and a list of available catering services for your event.  Call to reserve the club for your special event, (602)275-9329.
